Nature:
[(methylthio)methyl]oxirane is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It has a density of 1.11g/cm³, a boiling point of 122°C and a flash point of 42°C. It is insoluble in water at normal temperature, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether solvents.
Use:
[(methylthio)methyl]oxirane is commonly used as a comonomer for the synthesis of polymer materials and resins. Its epoxy group can react with other compounds to carry out polymer polymerization reaction to prepare polymers with specific properties. [(methylthio)methyl]oxirane can also be used as intermediates in organic synthesis for the synthesis of other organic compounds.
Preparation Method:
[(methylthio)methyl]oxirane can be prepared by reacting sodium methyl sulfate with propylene oxide. The reaction was carried out by first dissolving sodium methoxide in water and then adding propylene oxide. After completion of the reaction, the target product is obtained by steam distillation or freeze concentration.
